We had such a great experience working with Gabriel and his team at Bencke’s Tile Bath Remodel. From the very beginning, Gabriel was incredibly communicative, responsive, responsible, and someone we felt we could completely trust. He always kept us updated, answered every question, and made what could have been a stressful renovation feel easy.
Our Jack-and-Jill bathroom was 25 years old and very builder-grade and felt cramped with way too many doors. Gabriel helped completely transform the space into a bathroom that feels so much larger, brighter, and honestly looks like something out of a magazine.
The quality of the work is exceptional. They waterproofed the bathroom properly, insulated the tub, installed a linear drain with a perfectly sloped floor so the water drains exactly where it should, and the tile work is absolutely flawless. The floating vanity, mirror, and every finish were installed with so much attention to detail.
What I appreciated just as much was that Gabriel truly stands behind his work. If we noticed even the smallest thing, he was happy to come back and make it right without any hesitation. It’s rare to find a contractor who genuinely wants everything to be perfect.
We interviewed several contractors before choosing Gabriel, and I am so glad we did. The final result exceeded our expectations, and the whole process was smooth from start to finish. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Gabriel and his team to anyone looking for a bathroom remodel. They do beautiful work, they’re honest, and they’re the kind of people you actually enjoy working with. Midlothian kitchens have a lot of wall to plan
The Census draws its own line around Midlothian, and it is smaller than the Midlothian mailing area. Inside it, the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey for 2020 to 2024 puts the median home at about 2001, give or take two years. The 2000s are the biggest decade, with 29.5 percent of the 7,936 homes, and only 8.9 percent were built before 1980.
Houses from the 2000s often have bigger, more open kitchens than older ones, with an island and long runs of wall. A backsplash in a room like that has a lot of wall to cover and a lot of eyes on it. How high the tile goes and where it ends matter as much as the tile itself.
Planning a backsplash in a large Midlothian kitchen
How high to go
In a large open kitchen, decide early how far up the tile runs. Behind the range it can reach the ceiling. Along the counter it may stop at the underside of the cabinets.
Outlets in a long run
A long counter wall has more outlets and switches to line up with the tile. Look at where each one sits before you pick a pattern.
Walls with nothing old on them
About 91 percent of the homes here were built in 1980 or later. Most walls are newer drywall, so there is rarely old tile to deal with.
Brandermill and Woodlake
The Census treats Brandermill and Woodlake as areas of their own, next to the one for Midlothian. If your address says Midlothian, give us your street and we will confirm that we cover it.

Who to call in Midlothian about a permit
Midlothian is inside Chesterfield County and has no permit desk of its own. Permits go through Chesterfield County Building Inspection, at 9800 Government Center Parkway.
The county’s list of jobs that need no permit includes new floor coverings and replacing plumbing fixtures. A new wall, or moving one, needs a permit. Wall tile is not named on the page, so ask the office about your backsplash.

We love our new kitchen tile backsplash! Working with Bencke’s was a great experience, from the start with good communication and professionalism to the finish with a beautiful job well done!
Gabriel came by to give an estimate on doing tile work and was very thorough in articulating his approach, timeline and cost. He gave a wonderful idea to put a marble counter ledge which turned out really beautiful. He was so quick in starting the project and kept everything so clean with protecting furniture surround the bathroom. His crew were so polite and did an amazing job. I’m so grateful for them completing this so quickly. Gabriel went above and beyond to get everything done quickly but also with excellence. I would highly recommend him and his crew!
We needed an access panel for our tile bathtub and Gabriel was able to give us a quick estimate. He delivered flawlessly and we are very happy!
I can't say enough about Gabriel and his team. I put in an emergency request for kitchen and bathroom tile repairs/replacements on a Tuesday, and they were out fixing it and doing an amazing job by Thursday!! Highly recommend. Can't say enough good things! Thank you!
Frequently asked questions
Don’t see your question? Call or write and we will answer it.
Yes, we cover Midlothian and the rest of Chesterfield County. On our service-area map, its point is about 12 miles from the point for Richmond, in a straight line.
There is no single answer. Many people stop at the underside of the cabinets and run tile to the ceiling only behind the range. A taller panel suits a large wall, and we can talk it through at the estimate.
Both are in Chesterfield County, and Chesterfield is one of our main areas. Give us your street and we will confirm.
Often, yes. Most Midlothian homes were built after 1980, so the wall is usually flat drywall with nothing old to deal with. The look you want becomes the bigger decision.
